Hot Mic Picks Up Xi, Putin Chat on Extending Human Lifespan.

Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin were caught on a live feed in Beijing discussing how advances in science could prolong human life. The conversation took place as the two leaders, alongside North Korea’s Kim Jong Un, walked to the viewing platform for a military parade marking the 80th anniversary of World War II’s end.

Xi remarked that living to 70 was once rare but is now considered commonplace. Putin responded, according to an interpreter, that biotechnology may one day allow organ transplants to make people younger — and even approach “immortality.” A voice resembling Xi’s was later heard suggesting lifespans could reach 150 years this century.

The off-script remarks were broadcast briefly before the feed cut to parade footage. At a press conference later, Putin confirmed Xi had raised the subject, citing medical advances as reason for optimism.
