Yash’s Toxic Could Open at ₹130 Crore, Surpass Animal and Dhurandhar but Miss KGF 2 Benchmark

Yash is back on the big screen after nearly four years with Geetu Mohandas’ action thriller Toxic.

Mounted on a large scale and released across India in five languages, the film has generated strong anticipation, with advance bookings pointing towards a big opening at the box office.

Toxic advance booking

Advance bookings for Toxic opened at around 6 AM on August 21, followed by the opening of bookings at major national cinema chains. The response was immediate, with audiences rushing to secure tickets across online platforms.

By Wednesday morning, after five days of advance sales, the film had sold more than 15 lakh tickets and generated nearly ₹50 crore for its opening day.

While the Kannada version dominated the initial phase of bookings, the Hindi version eventually emerged as the biggest contributor. The Hindi release reportedly collected ₹25 crore in advance bookings, significantly exceeding expectations, while the Kannada version earned around ₹18 crore. Despite the lower collection, the Kannada version recorded stronger occupancy.

The strong Hindi response underlines Yash’s popularity in North India following the success of the KGF films.

Toxic box office expectations

Trade estimates suggest that Toxic could earn around ₹85-90 crore net in India on its opening day across all languages.

The Hindi version is expected to contribute approximately ₹35-40 crore, with the Kannada version following closely. The Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam versions could collectively add another ₹12-15 crore.

A strong audience response could push the domestic opening closer to ₹100 crore, although trade estimates suggest that crossing the mark may be difficult.

The overseas performance could further boost the film’s worldwide total, with North America and the Middle East expected to be key markets. If Toxic achieves its targeted $2.5 million overseas opening, its worldwide day-one gross could reach ₹120-130 crore.

At the higher end of these projections, Toxic could enter the list of the biggest opening days for an Indian film, surpassing films such as Animal, Adipurush and Jawan. However, Yash’s own record remains out of reach, with KGF Chapter 2 holding his career-best opening of ₹164 crore.

The film could also secure the second-biggest Indian opening of the year, ahead of Peddi at ₹117 crore, but behind Dhurandhar 2, which reportedly opened at ₹205 crore.

Directed by Geetu Mohandas, Toxic features Yash in the lead alongside Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, Rukmini Vasanth and Tara Sutaria.

The film released in theatres on August 26 and has also attracted attention for its intimate scenes and controversial imagery and dialogue involving women. The CBFC cleared the film with an A certificate without requiring any cuts.
