State Tennis Player Radhika Yadav Shot Dead by Father in Gurugram After Dispute.
In a deeply disturbing incident, 25-year-old state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav was allegedly shot dead by her father at their home in Gurugram’s Sector 57 on Thursday afternoon. The shooting occurred around 12 PM in their Sushant Lok Phase-2 residence. Police said Radhika’s father fired five rounds from his licensed revolver following a heated argument, three of which struck her. She was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition but died during treatment.
Preliminary investigation suggests the dispute stemmed from Radhika’s decision to independently run a tennis academy — a move that reportedly triggered anger and frustration in her father. “The licensed weapon used in the crime has been seized. The accused has been arrested and is currently being questioned. We are also speaking to other family members to ascertain the full sequence of events,” said Inspector Vinod Kumar, SHO of Sector 56 Police Station.
Radhika Yadav was a well-known name in Haryana’s tennis circles, particularly noted for her prowess in doubles. In recent years, she had transitioned into coaching, founding a tennis academy to mentor young talent. Her former coach, Manoj Bhardwaj, called her death a “shocking and tragic loss,” describing her as “disciplined, driven, and exceptionally talented.”
Radhika had competed against several national and international players during her career, including Viswanadh Harshini, Bougrat Maelys, Sun Yifan, Maruri Suhitha, and Mashabayeva Dilnaz.
Police are continuing their investigation, and further updates are awaited.
