A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck near Neiafu in the South Pacific on Tuesday, according to the United States Geological Survey, with no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The quake hit about 153 km west of Neiafu at a depth of over 235 km, with the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirming there was no tsunami threat due to its deep origin.

The tremor follows a 6.2-magnitude earthquake that struck Tonga’s Hihifo region a day earlier.

Separately, Nepal also recorded mild seismic activity, with a 4.1-magnitude quake hitting the Sudurpaschim province. There were no reports of damage, though tremors were felt in nearby districts.

Located in a highly active seismic zone, Nepal remains among the world’s most earthquake-prone countries.
