Raja Raghuvanshi Murder: Sonam, Lover Raj Kushwaha Sent to Police Custody Till June 19.

Shillong – Sonam Raghuvanshi, accused of murdering her husband Raja Raghuvanshi during their honeymoon in Meghalaya, has been sent to police custody till June 19. A Shillong court also remanded her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and three other co-accused to eight days of police custody.

Sonam has confessed to her involvement in the murder during questioning by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). Her formal statement is expected to be recorded soon before a magistrate under Section 164 of the CrPC, and police are preparing to videotape her confession, which could be crucial during prosecution.

Case Background
Raja (29) and Sonam were married on May 11 in Indore and went missing during their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 23. His body was recovered from a gorge near a waterfall in Sohra (Cherrapunji) in the East Khasi Hills on June 2.

Initially reported missing, Sonam later surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, after the arrest of her alleged accomplices:

Akash Rajput (19)

Vishal Singh Chauhan (22)

Anand Kurmi

The key conspirator, Raj Kushwaha (21), was arrested later. All were brought to Shillong by Meghalaya Police and produced in court.

Motive and Planning
Investigations suggest that Sonam and Kushwaha, believed to be in a relationship, hatched the murder plot in advance. Kushwaha did not travel to Meghalaya to avoid suspicion, continuing his daily routine in Indore during the crime.

Kushwaha, a Class 12 pass-out, worked as an accountant in Sonam’s family-run furniture sheet business. Sonam was actively involved in managing the business in Indore’s Govind Nagar Kharcha area.

Family’s Reaction
Raja’s mother has condemned the murder, calling it a betrayal and blaming Sonam for casting a “dark spell” on her son and the family. She described the killing as driven by “black magic and evil intent.”
