Genelia D’Souza Denies Bizarre Rumours of ‘Accidental’ Marriage to John Abraham on Force Set.
Genelia D’Souza has finally addressed a long-standing and bizarre rumour — that she and co-star John Abraham were “accidentally” married during the shoot of their 2011 action film Force.
In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, the actress dismissed the claim, which had made headlines back in 2012. According to the rumour, a real priest had been called in to perform a wedding sequence between the two — complete with rituals like the mangalsutra, mantras, and even the traditional saat pheras — supposedly making the on-screen wedding legally binding.
“There was no truth to it. We didn’t get married,” Genelia clarified. “These stories were spread by PR, and I think you should ask them why they did it.”
The actress stressed that neither she nor John Abraham had any role in fuelling the rumour, calling it a completely fabricated PR stunt. Genelia married actor Riteish Deshmukh in 2012, and the couple now has two children. John Abraham is married to investment banker Priya Runchal.
Genelia also opened up about her decade-long break from acting after marriage, saying it was a conscious choice.
“People ask if it was easy to leave the limelight for 10 years, and I say — it’s what I wanted. I found happiness in that space. I may not do 10 films now, maybe just three, but that’s where my joy is,” she shared in a separate interview with Zoom.
After a hiatus that began in 2012, Genelia returned to acting with the Marathi film Ved in 2022, which was directed by Riteish and became a hit. She also made brief cameo appearances in films like Jai Ho and Force 2 during her time away from the spotlight.
