Elon Musk Launches ‘America Party’ After Split with Trump, Calls for Political Disruption.
Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has announced the formation of a new U.S. political party — the America Party — positioning it as an alternative to what he calls a “broken and corrupt political system.” The announcement follows a growing rift between Musk and former President Donald Trump, culminating in Musk’s departure from the now-disbanded Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
In a post on his platform X (formerly Twitter), Musk declared,
“Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
His move comes in the wake of a poll he conducted on Independence Day, asking users whether a new political party should be created. The response was overwhelming, with 65.4% voting in favor, which Musk said confirmed public frustration with the current two-party system.
Criticism of ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’
Tensions between Musk and Trump escalated after the passage of Trump’s signature legislation, the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” a sweeping tax-and-spending measure signed on July 4. Musk criticized the bill, warning it could add $3.3 trillion to the national debt over the next decade and accusing it of undermining efficiency reforms.
Once a key advisor in Trump’s inner circle, Musk had led controversial efforts to cut federal spending through DOGE. His exit from the administration marked a turning point in their relationship.
Challenging the ‘Uniparty’
Musk has since positioned himself as a challenger to what he refers to as America’s “uniparty system”, claiming both major parties are complicit in driving waste and inefficiency.
Quoting a military analogy, Musk said,
“We’re going to crack the uniparty system like Epaminondas at Leuctra — concentrated force at a precise location.”
Supporters have compared his new political push to his earlier ventures like Tesla and SpaceX — ambitious projects that defied odds and disrupted entire industries. While the America Party’s specific policy agenda is still unclear, Musk has framed it as a movement to reclaim freedom, efficiency, and fiscal responsibility.
