Goldman Sachs Rehires Former UK PM Rishi Sunak as Senior Adviser

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. has brought former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on board as a senior adviser, marking his return to the firm two decades after he began his finance career there. In a statement on Tuesday, Goldman CEO David Solomon said Sunak will advise the firm’s global clients on macroeconomic and geopolitical issues, citing his “unique perspectives” shaped by senior leadership roles in government.

Sunak served as prime minister from October 2022 to July 2024, following his tenure as Chancellor of the Exchequer during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also held other Treasury and ministerial roles after entering Parliament in 2015.

Despite stepping down as prime minister after leading the Conservative Party to a historic defeat in the 2024 general election, Sunak remains an MP for Richmond and Northallerton and has publicly committed to serving a full term. His appointment to Goldman Sachs comes as the firm seeks to bolster its advisory strength amid global economic and political uncertainty.

Sunak previously worked at Goldman Sachs from 2001 to 2004 as an analyst, following a summer internship. After leaving the firm, he co-founded an investment company focused on international markets.
