BAN vs PAK 2nd T20I: Bangladesh Clinch Emotional Series Win, Dedicate Victory to Jet Crash Victims.
Dhaka. Bangladesh sealed a memorable T20I series win over Pakistan on Tuesday, prevailing by eight runs in a tense finish in the second match at Sher-e-Bangla Stadium. The hosts dedicated their historic triumph to the victims of the tragic jet crash that rocked Dhaka a day earlier, leaving at least 20 dead and 171 injured.
Skipper Litton Das led the tribute after the match, saying, “Whatever happened yesterday in Bangladesh was heartbreaking. We want to dedicate this win to the lives lost in that incident.”
Bangladesh Hold Nerve in Final-Over Thriller
Defending a modest total of 134, Bangladesh’s pace attack tore through Pakistan’s top order early. Shoriful Islam (3/17) and Tanzim Hasan Sakib (2/23) reduced the visitors to 15 for 5 within the first five overs, sparking hopes of a one-sided win.
However, Faheem Ashraf had other ideas. Waging a lone battle, the all-rounder counterattacked with a gritty 57 off 36 balls—his maiden T20I fifty—and stitched a 41-run ninth-wicket stand with Abbas Afridi to take Pakistan agonizingly close.
Needing 13 off the final over, debutant Ahmed Daniyal struck an early boundary, but holed out trying to go big. The Bangladeshi bowlers held their nerve, sealing the series 2–0 with one game to spare.
Jaker Ali Rescues Bangladesh with the Bat
Earlier, Pakistan’s bowlers had struck early blows, reducing Bangladesh to 28 for 4. But Jaker Ali once again played the rescue act, anchoring the innings with a composed 55 off 48 balls. He added 53 runs with Mahedi Hasan for the fifth wicket, then launched a counterattack with five sixes to push Bangladesh to 134—ultimately a match-winning total on a sluggish Dhaka pitch.
Pakistan Slump to New Low
Pakistan’s chase never recovered from the early damage. A run-out mix-up, poor shot selection, and inspired bowling left them staring at defeat before Faheem’s late fightback gave them a glimmer. Despite his heroics, the team was left ruing their poor start and missed chances.
The final T20I of the series will be played on Thursday, July 24.
