True-Crime Film on Meghalaya Honeymoon Murder Gets Family’s Nod.
A shocking real-life crime that made national headlines earlier this year is now being adapted for the big screen. The murder of Indore-based businessman Raja Raghuvanshi during his honeymoon in Meghalaya stunned the country — and now, his family has given their consent for a film based on the case.
Titled Honeymoon in Shillong, the film will be directed by SP Nimbawat and will trace the chilling events surrounding Raja’s murder, the police investigation, and the high-profile arrests that followed — including that of his wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, and her alleged lover, Raj Kushwaha.
Raja’s brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, confirmed the family’s approval, saying they want the film to reveal the truth behind what happened. “We believe that if we don’t bring my brother’s story to the big screen, people won’t know who was right and who was wrong,” he told reporters, as quoted by PTI.
His other brother, Vipin, said they also want the film to portray an accurate picture of Meghalaya — the northeastern state where the murder occurred — countering the potential for negative stereotyping. Director SP Nimbawat described the film as a cautionary tale about love, betrayal, and the consequences of deceit. “Through our story, we want to send a message that such acts of betrayal and violence must be condemned and prevented,” he said.
The film’s script is reportedly complete. Around 80% of the shoot will take place in Indore, with the rest set in various locations across Meghalaya. Casting details have not yet been disclosed.
The case captured widespread attention earlier this year. Raja had travelled to Meghalaya in May for his honeymoon. Days later, he was reported missing. On June 2, police recovered his body from a gorge near a waterfall in the Sohra region (Cherrapunji). A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of eight individuals, including Sonam Raghuvanshi and her suspected partner, who allegedly plotted the murder.
