Bobby Deol has been making waves with his intense villainous roles in projects like Aashram, Animal, and Daaku Maharaj. However, his Tamil debut Kanguva, starring alongside superstar Suriya, failed to make an impact at the box office.
Bobby Deol Wanted to Work with Suriya
In a recent interview with Faridoon Shahryar, Bobby shared that the primary reason he signed Kanguva was his admiration for Suriya. “I did Kanguva because I always wanted to be part of a film with Suriya. He is a great actor,” he said.
Bobby played the role of Udhiran, the fierce antagonist to Suriya’s warrior prince Kanguvan, ruler of Perumaachi island in 1070 AD. Director Siva cast Bobby based on limited footage he had seen, mainly from the Celebrity Cricket League, before Bobby’s film Animal was released.
On Kanguva’s Box Office Failure
Bobby was honest about the film’s flop. “What can you do when the script doesn’t work out? Sometimes I just want to enjoy the shoot and grow as an actor,” he explained.
Success with Daaku Maharaj
While Kanguva disappointed, Bobby found success earlier this year with Daaku Maharaj. “It was a big hit, and working with director Bala sir was wonderful. He’s truly a star of the masses,” Bobby said.
Cast and Production
Kanguva featured an ensemble cast including Disha Patani, Yogi Babu, Prakash Raj, and a cameo by Karthi. The film was produced by Studio Green and UV Creations.
Upcoming Projects
Bobby continues to expand his footprint in South Indian cinema with Jana Nayagan alongside Thalapathy Vijay, directed by H Vinoth. He also has Bollywood projects lined up, including Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar and YRF’s spy thriller Alpha with Alia Bhatt.
Rumors of Bobby Deol in War 2
There are buzz and rumors that Bobby Deol will feature in the upcoming War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. Sources suggest that producer Aditya Chopra plans to introduce Bobby as a major villain, marking a significant role in the film’s storyline. A Bollywood Hungama insider said, “Aditya Chopra is known for surprising choices, and instead of focusing on female leads, he’s unleashing Bobby Deol’s character as a key antagonist going forward.”
