INDIA Bloc MPs Protest in Parliament Wearing ‘Minta Devi’ T-Shirts Over Alleged Voter List Irregularities
A day after marching to the Election Commission, INDIA bloc leaders on Tuesday staged another protest in Parliament, targeting the poll body over alleged “voter theft” and irregularities in Bihar’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Several opposition MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, wore T-shirts featuring the image of “Minta Devi” — a voter cited in Rahul Gandhi’s presentation on alleged electoral fraud. According to Congress MP Manickam Tagore, Minta Devi is listed as a first-time voter but with an age of 124 years, which the Opposition claims is evidence of a flawed voter list.
Tagore accused the Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, of functioning like “a department of the BJP” and said the protest aimed to “expose fake draft lists.”
Senior leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Sonia Gandhi, Derek O’Brien, TR Baalu, and Supriya Sule gathered in front of Parliament’s Makar Dwar during the demonstration.
On Monday, Parliament proceedings had been disrupted over the same issue, with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and several other INDIA bloc MPs detained during a march from Parliament to the EC headquarters.
