China Assures India on Fertilisers, Rare Earths; Border Talks on Agenda.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has assured External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar that Beijing will address India’s concerns on fertilisers, rare earths and tunnel-boring machines, sources said. The assurance came during Wang’s two-day visit to India, which began on Monday. Jaishankar underlined that bilateral ties, strained since the 2020 Galwan Valley clashes, require a “candid and constructive” approach based on mutual respect, sensitivity and interest.

In his opening remarks, Jaishankar also called for progress in the border de-escalation process in eastern Ladakh, where tens of thousands of troops remain deployed on both sides despite disengagement from key friction points. He further highlighted counter-terrorism as a major priority.

Wang’s visit is primarily aimed at holding a fresh round of Special Representatives dialogue on the boundary issue with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on Tuesday. The talks are expected to review the situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and consider new confidence-building measures.

Recent months have seen both sides take steps to ease tensions, including resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra and India reopening tourist visas for Chinese nationals.
