India Successfully Conducts Maiden Flight Test of Indigenous Integrated Air Defence Weapon System.

India on Saturday successfully carried out the maiden flight test of its indigenously developed Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS), marking a major breakthrough in the nation’s defence capabilities. The test was conducted at around 12:30 pm off the coast of Odisha, officials confirmed.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh hailed the achievement on X, posting:
“The @DRDO_India has successfully conducted the maiden flight Tests of Integrated Air Defence Weapon System (IADWS), on 23 Aug 2025 at around 1230 Hrs off the coast of Odisha. I congratulate DRDO, India Armed Forces and Industry for successful development of IADWS.”

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) also released visuals of the successful test, underscoring the system’s advanced indigenous technology. In its statement, DRDO described IADWS as a multi-layered air defence shield, integrating:

  • Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile (QRSAM)
  • Advanced Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS)
  • High-power laser-based Directed Energy Weapon (DEW)

Together, these components are designed to neutralise a wide spectrum of threats — from low-flying drones to high-speed enemy aircraft and advanced missiles.

Officials hailed the successful maiden test as a landmark achievement in India’s pursuit of self-reliance in defence technologies. Minister Singh emphasised that the system will “strengthen area defence for critical facilities against enemy aerial threats and firmly establish India’s multi-layered air defence capability.”
