US Open: Sinner rallies past Shapovalov; Osaka books Gauff showdown.

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner dug deep to overcome Denis Shapovalov in the US Open third round on Saturday, August 30. The Italian needed three hours and 12 minutes to secure a 5-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 win at Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Shapovalov drew first blood by taking the opening set, but Sinner responded with trademark resilience. In the third set, the Canadian surged ahead 3-0 before Sinner reeled off six of the next seven games to seize control. From there, the top seed never looked back, sealing victory with precision and extending his unbeaten run in Grand Slam hard-court matches to 24.

Sinner now awaits the winner of Alexander Bublik vs Tommy Paul in the Round of 16.

Osaka advances in three-set battle

Naomi Osaka, the No. 23 seed, reached the US Open fourth round for the first time since 2021 with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 victory over 15th seed Daria Kasatkina.

Osaka blitzed through the opening set, dropping only eight points, before Kasatkina turned the tables in the second by breaking serve four times. The deciding set saw Osaka steady her game and finish strongly to set up a blockbuster clash with defending champion Coco Gauff.

“Can somebody come to the match and cheer for me because it’s tough playing an American here? I hope you guys adopted me as well,” Osaka joked after the match. “I see her as a little sister.” Gauff leads their head-to-head 3-2, but Osaka claimed their only previous US Open meeting in 2019.
