India-US Ties Will Endure Despite Tariff Dispute, Says Piyush Goyal.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal on Thursday expressed confidence that India-US relations would remain strong despite recent trade tensions, calling the partnership “very consequential” and capable of weathering temporary setbacks.
The remarks come after the US imposed a total 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods—25 per cent citing the trade deficit and another 25 per cent over India’s continued oil trade with Russia—raising concerns over a downturn in bilateral trade.
“There may be certain blips in the relationship, but it is a very strong strategic friendship. It can weather many storms and will continue to grow. We will continue to have a lot of business to do together,” Goyal said. His comments underscore India’s intent to maintain a resilient and cooperative partnership with the US, even amid trade and geopolitical challenges.
