Aamir Khan criticises Bollywood stars for lavish on-set demands, calls it ‘shameful’

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan has slammed the culture of extravagant on-set demands by actors, calling it “shameful” and unfair to producers. Speaking to Komal Nahta on his YouTube channel Game Changers, Khan highlighted requests ranging from multiple vanity vans to live kitchens, gyms, and personal staff being paid for by producers.

Recalling his early days in the industry, Khan said, “Stars should get recognition, but not to a point where they trouble the producers. I found it strange that producers were paying for my personal driver and help. If they’re paying for my staff, will they also pay for my kids’ school fees? Where will this stop?”

He stressed that only costs directly linked to filmmaking—like makeup, hair, and costumes—should be covered by producers. “Personal staff, trainers, cooks, or other luxuries are my responsibility, especially when I am earning well,” he added.

Khan noted that the problem has worsened today. “Some actors ask producers to pay for live kitchens and multiple vanity vans. While I’m not against luxury, passing these costs to producers harms the industry.”

Citing exceptions like Dangal, where producers covered wrestling training for actors, he said, “Outside such film-related needs, personal costs should never burden the film.”

On his own approach, Khan said, “Even during outdoor shoots with my family, I pay from my pocket. Stars today are taking advantage of their status. These demands only project them in the wrong light.”
