Trump to Host Argentina’s Javier Milei at White House Amid $20B US Support.
US President Donald Trump will meet Argentina’s President Javier Milei at the White House on October 14, the Argentine government confirmed. The meeting follows the announcement of a multi-billion-dollar US support package aimed at stabilizing Argentina’s economy.
The White House talks, coming just two weeks before Argentina’s mid-term elections, are expected to strengthen the “strategic alliance” between the two countries and bolster Milei’s reform agenda, which faced setbacks in early September provincial elections.
Last month, Trump and Milei met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Following that meeting, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled a $20 billion support program, including a currency swap line to help stabilize the Argentine peso, as well as potential purchases of Argentine debt and a direct credit line from the US Treasury.
Milei praised Trump’s backing as “unprecedented,” emphasizing that the funds would help Argentina service its debt. Argentina faces $4 billion in repayments in January 2026 and $4.5 billion in July. Earlier this year, the country also secured a $20 billion IMF loan on top of the $44 billion received in 2018, which was later renegotiated.
