“From Garage to Stardom: Salman Khan’s First Role Revealed by Director”

Salman Khan Landed His First Film Role After Walking Into a Director’s Garage.

Long before Maine Pyar Kiya made him a superstar, Salman Khan got his first break in Biwi Ho Toh Aisi (1988) in an unexpected way. Director JK Bihari recently revealed that he cast Salman on the spot when he saw the young actor walking towards his office — without an audition or even asking his name.

“I was sitting in my garage and saw a boy walking across the road with a file. I decided, just by his walk, that I’m going to sign him,” Bihari told Siddharth Kannan. Salman played a small but important role as Farooq Sheikh’s younger brother, marking his big-screen debut.

Remarkably, Salman never used his father Salim Khan’s name to get the part. Bihari said, “He came and talked to me, and I said yes. He couldn’t believe it. He didn’t leverage his father’s reputation, which actually worked in his favour.”

After discovering Salman’s lineage, Bihari initially worried the young actor might back out — but he didn’t. “Salim Khan said, you are a new director, he is also new,” Bihari recalled. Destiny, it seems, played a key role in launching Salman’s career.

Salman even signed a strict three-film contract with the producer for a minimal amount, simply to start working. “He wanted a break, so he was ready to sign anything,” the director added. Just a year later, Salman was launched as a leading man in Maine Pyar Kiya, setting the stage for one of Bollywood’s biggest stardoms.

Currently, Salman is shooting for Battle of Galwan and hosting Bigg Boss 19. He also recently made a cameo on Aryan Khan’s show, The Ba**ds of Bollywood*.
