Pop icon Britney Spears has hit back at her ex-husband Kevin Federline following the release of his new memoir, You Thought You Knew.

Federline, 47, claims in the book that he is concerned for Spears and their two sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, but Spears’ team has dismissed the allegations as sensationalism.

A representative for Spears, 43, told People magazine:

“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her, and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin. All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism. She detailed her journey in her memoir, The Woman in Me.”

Background

Spears and Federline were married in 2004 and had two sons before divorcing in 2007. In his memoir, Federline recounts moments from their sons’ teenage years, including incidents where they allegedly approached him with concerning claims about Spears’ behavior.

As reported by The New York Times, Federline wrote:

“They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep, ‘Oh, you’re awake?’, with a knife in her hand. Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.” He also warns that Spears’ current situation seems to be “racing toward something irreversible” and fears that “something bad is going to happen if things don’t change,” leaving their sons “holding the pieces.”

Federline reportedly critiques the Free Britney movement, suggesting it may have caused unintended harm, though he did not provide specifics.
