A major development has emerged in the Haryana police suicide case, as an FIR has been registered at Rohtak Sadar police station over.

The death of Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sandeep Kumar. The case has deepened the controversy surrounding the tragic deaths of two senior officers and allegations of corruption and misuse of power within the state police. According to sources, the FIR names four individuals — IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar’s wife P. Avneet Kaur, his gunman Sushil, Bathinda Rural MLA Amit Ratna, and another unidentified person. Authorities have withheld the official copy of the FIR, citing the ongoing investigation.

The case has sparked political and public outrage across Haryana, as officials continue to probe the circumstances leading to the officer’s death. ASI Sandeep Kumar’s post-mortem is scheduled for tomorrow morning, followed by his cremation at noon in Rohtak.

Background: Two Deaths, One Explosive Controversy

The case gained national attention following the successive suicides of two officers — IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar and ASI Sandeep Kumar. The chain of events has exposed alleged corruption, caste-based discrimination, and extortion within the police force.

On October 7, IPS officer Puran Kumar, who was recently transferred from Rohtak range to the Sunaria Police Training College, shot himself at his Chandigarh residence. He left behind an eight-page suicide note naming senior IPS officers, accusing them of harassment and humiliation.

A week later, on October 14, ASI Sandeep Kumar — who had been investigating corruption charges against Puran Kumar — also took his own life. In his suicide note and a video, he accused Kumar and his family of bribery, extortion, and harassment of women officers, alleging that the IPS officer exploited caste politics and maintained links with criminal networks.

Timeline of Key Events

  • September 29: Puran Kumar transferred abruptly, reportedly without notice.
  • October 1: His PSO Sushil Kumar was detained by a Rohtak police team led by ASI Sandeep Kumar. Before detention, Sushil left his service revolver in the car — the same weapon later used in Puran Kumar’s suicide.
  • October 6: A corruption case was filed against Sushil Kumar under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
  • October 7: Puran Kumar’s suicide shocked the state police establishment.
  • October 8: His wife, IAS officer Avneet Kaur, returned from Japan and filed a complaint demanding arrests before post-mortem proceedings.
  • October 14: ASI Sandeep Kumar allegedly shot himself, leaving behind a detailed suicide note and a video message.

Gangster Nexus Allegations

In his note, ASI Sandeep Kumar claimed that IPS officer Puran Kumar had links with gangster Rao Inderjit, believed to be operating from abroad. The alleged nexus, he wrote, was part of a Rs 50 crore deal to clear Kumar’s name in a murder case. Rao Inderjit is also suspected of connections with the Himanshu Bhau gang and other high-profile cases, including the attack on singer Fazilpuria and incidents linked to YouTuber Elvish Yadav.

Investigation Underway

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing both suicides is examining possible links between the two deaths, including whether ASI Sandeep faced threats or pressure while investigating corruption charges against Puran Kumar.

Officials say they are also looking into forensic data from Puran Kumar’s laptop and mobile devices to verify allegations of extortion, manipulation, and interference within the department.

As the investigation deepens, political parties have called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, citing potential conflicts of interest and the sensitivity of the case involving multiple senior officers and politicians.
