India’s Kiran Navgire set a new world record for the fastest century in women’s T20 cricket on Friday, October 17, at VCA Stadium, Nagpur. Playing for Maharashtra against Nagpur in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy, she smashed a 34-ball century.
The right-handed opener scored 106 off 35 balls, hitting 14 fours and seven sixes, surpassing the previous record of 36 balls set by New Zealand captain Sophie Devine in January 2021. Navgire’s explosive innings powered Maharashtra to chase 111 in just eight overs, securing a nine-wicket win.
She batted at a strike rate of 302.86, becoming the first woman to score a T20 century at over 300 SR. She shared an unbeaten 103-run partnership for the second wicket with Mukta Magre, who contributed six runs. Maharashtra’s total of 113/1 is now the lowest team score to feature an individual hundred in women’s T20 cricket, surpassing the previous record of 123.
Hailing from Mire in Solapur district, Maharashtra, Navgire first gained attention during the 2022 Women’s T20 Trophy for Nagaland, smashing 162 off 76 balls against Arunachal Pradesh and hitting 35 sixes—the highest by an Indian woman in a T20 match.
Her performances earned her an India T20I debut against England in 2022, but she has not played for the national side since the Women’s Asia Cup 2022. In six T20Is, she scored 17 runs off 19 balls with one not out. In the Women’s Premier League (WPL), Navgire has been a key batter for UP Warriorz, scoring 419 runs in 24 innings at a strike rate of 140.13 over three seasons.
