Trump Warns Israel It Would Lose All US Support Over West Bank Annexation.
US President Donald Trump has warned that Israel would lose “all support” from the United States if it moves forward with plans to annex the West Bank. Trump’s comments come amid criticism from White House officials over a proposed Knesset vote on the annexation, which they say would contradict his peace plan for Gaza.
In an interview with TIME Magazine published on Thursday, Trump said Israel cannot proceed with annexation, emphasizing his commitment to Arab countries. “You can’t do that now. We’ve had great Arab support. It won’t happen because I gave my word to the Arab countries. It will not happen. Israel would lose all of its support from the United States if that happened,” he said.
Washington has repeatedly stated that unilateral annexation of the West Bank crosses a “red line”. In September, Trump affirmed, “I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank. It’s not going to happen.”
Trump also touched on his plans to visit the Gaza Strip but did not comment on the governance of a post-war Palestinian Authority. He said he has generally found Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas reasonable, noting their cordial interactions in the past.
Additionally, Trump highlighted progress in Middle East diplomacy, revealing that Saudi Arabia may join the Abraham Accords by the end of the year, bringing it closer to normalizing ties with Israel.
