India has hailed US President Donald Trump’s role in the recent Gaza ceasefire as a “landmark initiative” at the United Nations, while emphasizing that sustained dialogue is crucial for the agreement to hold.
Indian Permanent Representative to the UN, Parvathaneni Harish, highlighted India’s participation in the Gaza Peace Summit at Sharm el-Sheikh on October 13, 2025, and welcomed the signing of the peace agreement. He underscored that lasting calm in Palestine has broader regional implications, saying, “It is important for the Agreement to hold and the ceasefire to sustain. Talks must continue, and there must be abiding faith in the efficacy of dialogue and diplomacy.”
Harish lauded Trump for playing an “instrumental role in forging the Agreement” and also commended Egypt and Qatar for their efforts. He reiterated India’s commitment to a two-state solution as the path to peace, emphasizing that unilateral moves by any party would be counterproductive.
Pointing to India’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, Harish stressed that since October 7, 2023, India has condemned terrorism, called for an end to civilian suffering, and advocated the immediate release of hostages. India has contributed over USD 170 million in aid to the Palestinian people, including ongoing projects worth USD 40 million, and delivered nearly 135 metric tons of medical supplies over the past two years. Harish highlighted that humanitarian aid must be accompanied by economic frameworks that promote social development, investment, and employment.
India’s broader Middle East engagement was also outlined, including its recent supply of 5 metric tons of essential medicines to Syria and support for a Syrian-led political process. Harish noted India’s active role in peacekeeping missions, paying tribute to Indian troops in UNDOF and emphasizing the safety of UN peacekeepers in UNIFIL, where India is a major contributor.
Regarding Yemen, Harish said, “Humanitarian assistance must be above politics. It must reach all civilians irrespective of affiliations, and the immediate cessation of hostilities would catalyse relief efforts. Ensuring the safety of Indian nationals in Yemen remains a priority.”
Concluding, he stressed that India’s stance is guided by the principles of human dignity, civilian safety, and the right of all individuals to lead normal lives, reaffirming India’s readiness to contribute to lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
