SBI to Recruit 3,500 Officers to Strengthen Operations and Service Delivery.

The State Bank of India (SBI), the country’s largest lender, plans to hire around 3,500 officers over the next five months to enhance its operational efficiency and improve customer service across its network.

Recruitment Across Multiple Categories
SBI has already recruited 505 probationary officers (POs) in June, and applications for a similar number of new PO vacancies have been received. The selection process includes preliminary and main exams, psychometric tests, and interviews.

In addition, around 1,300 specialist officers have been appointed to strengthen the bank’s IT and cybersecurity capabilities, while 3,000 circle-based officers are expected to be hired within the current financial year.

Earlier this year, SBI Chairman C. S. Setty had announced a total recruitment target of 18,000 employees, including 13,500 clerical staff and officers, to support the bank’s nationwide operations.

Focus on Gender Diversity
SBI is also aiming to improve gender diversity, targeting 30% women employees within the next five years. Currently, women make up 33% of frontline staff and 27% of the total workforce. The bank has introduced several women-centric initiatives, including creche allowances, family connect programmes, and reorientation training for employees returning from maternity or sabbatical leave. Its flagship programme, ‘Empower Her’, focuses on mentoring and grooming women for leadership roles to strengthen the pipeline of future female leaders.

With a workforce of over 2.4 lakh employees, SBI continues to focus on enhancing efficiency, customer experience, and workplace inclusivity while supporting the growth of India’s largest banking network.
