Intelligence alert over threat to Diljit Dosanjh’s Melbourne concert; SFJ-linked groups under watch ahead of Aura 2025 tour stop.
Australian police and intelligence agencies have heightened security around singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s Aura 2025 concert in Melbourne, scheduled for November 1 (Saturday), following credible intelligence inputs suggesting a possible plot to disrupt the high-profile event.
According to sources quoted by CNN-News18, the banned organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) is believed to be planning protests and online agitation targeting the concert to draw attention to anti-India narratives linked to the anniversary of the 1984 riots.
Threat level raised to ‘moderate to high’
Officials said that recent video messages from SFJ leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, along with calls for “shutdown rallies,” have prompted security agencies to raise the Melbourne threat level to Level 2, denoting a moderate to high risk.
Law enforcement agencies are particularly concerned about lone-actor disruptions or acts of sabotage. Intelligence reports indicate that groups like the Victorian Sikh Youth Front and Australian Sikh Rights Collective—previously associated with SFJ’s online campaigns—may attempt coordinated actions.
Online propaganda and digital manipulation
SFJ has reportedly been using encrypted Telegram channels, with coordination and funding traced to servers in the US and Canada, to spread its messaging. The group has also launched digital campaigns using hashtags such as #BoycottDiljit and #PanthicJustice on social media platforms, amplifying emotionally charged visuals and content tied to 1984 through bot networks and diaspora influencers.
Intelligence sources have described the effort as a “calibrated influence operation” aimed at reviving SFJ’s visibility among sections of the Sikh diaspora, rather than an organic outpouring of sentiment.
12–15 individuals under surveillance
The Australian Federal Police (AFP) are reportedly monitoring 12–15 individuals in Melbourne and Sydney for possible links to the threat. Authorities in both India and Australia are maintaining close coordination to ensure event security through informal liaison channels.
Diljit’s concert to proceed as planned
Despite the heightened alert, the Melbourne concert is expected to go ahead as scheduled, with enhanced police deployment and crowd control measures.
Known for his cross-cultural appeal and largely apolitical public persona, Diljit Dosanjh has become one of India’s biggest global music ambassadors. Analysts suggest that targeting him could be part of a broader attempt by SFJ to undermine India’s cultural outreach abroad and dissuade other Sikh artists from maintaining neutral or pro-India stances.
