Kalyan Banerjee Challenges BJP Leaders to Visit Dankuni Without Security Amid Voter Roll Row in Bengal.

Amid the ongoing uproar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee has sparked a fresh political controversy by daring senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Sukanta Majumdar to visit Dankuni without their security detail.

Speaking at a public meeting, Banerjee said, “If they truly want to prove their connection with the people, they should give up their CISF protection and come to Dankuni. Let’s see if they can even return from there.” He went on to taunt, “Come, Sukanta and Suvendu, bring your men; we’ll bring ours. Come without police protection — we’ll also be there without police. Let’s see how Amit Shah takes you out safely.”

Banerjee accused BJP leaders of “always talking about meeting people while staying behind security cover,” claiming they lacked the courage to step into public spaces without protection.

Voter List Revision Underway
The remarks came as the Election Commission of India (ECI) launched the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 12 states, including West Bengal. The month-long exercise, running from November 4 to December 4, 2025, aims to update and verify voter lists ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. The final rolls are expected to be published in February 2026.

Political Tensions Rise
The SIR process has become a political flashpoint in the state, with the TMC accusing the BJP of attempting to manipulate voter rolls. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee are set to lead a protest rally in Kolkata on November 4 against what they allege are “partisan tactics” in the voter revision process.
