Actress Shamim Akbar Alli files complaint against autorickshaw driver for twisting her hand; police investigate
Actress Shamim Akbar Alli, best known for her performance in the 2021 film In the Month of July, has lodged a police complaint alleging that an autorickshaw driver assaulted her in Mumbai’s Mira Road area.
The incident reportedly took place on the afternoon of November 1 while she was travelling with her five-year-old daughter. Shamim said the argument began when she asked the driver to stop near her daughter’s school around 2:45 pm. “He suddenly became angry and started abusing me, demanding that I pay the fare immediately because he was in a hurry,” she told Mid-Day. “I picked up my daughter and got back into the rickshaw, asking him to drop us home.”
According to the actress, the driver turned violent after reaching her residential complex. “Before I could step out, he turned around, grabbed my right hand, and twisted it while I was still seated with my daughter,” she alleged. Following the altercation, Shamim filed a formal complaint at the Kashimira police station. Her statement has been recorded, and the registration number of the autorickshaw has been collected.
Confirming the development, a police officer said, “An inquiry has been initiated, and efforts are underway to identify and locate the accused driver. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed.”
