IPL 2026 Auction to Be Held in Abu Dhabi in Mid-December.
The upcoming IPL 2026 auction is set to take place in Abu Dhabi, with final dates likely falling on December 15 or 16, according to sources speaking to India Today. The IPL governing council is finalising logistics, with an official confirmation expected soon.
This will be the third consecutive IPL auction held overseas, following Dubai for IPL 2024 and Jeddah for the IPL 2025 mega auction. Multiple franchise representatives and officials familiar with the discussions have confirmed that Abu Dhabi has been chosen as the venue, continuing the league’s trend of hosting marquee events in the Gulf region.
Unlike last year’s mega auction in Saudi Arabia, the IPL 2026 event will be a mini-auction. Franchises are expected to make targeted signings rather than complete squad overhauls, focusing on strengthening key areas such as death bowling, power-hitting, and backup options for injured players.
Abu Dhabi’s world-class infrastructure and experience in hosting international cricket tournaments made it a practical choice for the IPL 2026 auction. Its proximity to India and capability to manage large-scale sporting events also makes it convenient for teams, officials, and broadcasters.
Ahead of the auction, teams are preparing their retention lists before the November 15 deadline and finalising release lists to balance budgets and improve squad depth. Several franchises are likely to release a few high-value players to create flexibility in the bidding war.
Sources told India Today that a formal announcement confirming the venue and exact dates is expected shortly. Once official, all eyes will turn to Abu Dhabi, where team owners, coaches, and scouts will gather for another high-stakes round of player selections shaping the IPL 2026 season.
