Rohit Sharma has been named the brand ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8.
The announcement was made by ICC chairman Jay Shah during a Mumbai event on November 25, where the tournament schedule was also revealed. Rohit, who won his first T20 World Cup in 2007 and lifted the trophy again as captain in 2024, is the only Indian to win the title twice. He retired from T20Is after India’s triumph in Barbados last year, becoming only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to win the tournament.
Expressing his gratitude, Rohit said he felt honoured to be the first active cricketer chosen as an ICC brand ambassador. “It’s a huge privilege and I’m very thankful,” he said, adding that he hoped India could recreate the spirit of their 2024 campaign with a new squad.
Looking back at India’s ICC journey, Rohit spoke about the challenges of winning global titles, recalling the 11-year gap between the 2013 Champions Trophy and the 2024 T20 World Cup. Now focusing solely on ODI cricket after retiring from Tests earlier this year, he said he is eager to experience the next T20 World Cup “from the other side,” as a spectator.
India will begin their 2026 campaign on February 7 in Mumbai against the United States. The team will then face Namibia on February 12 in New Delhi, followed by a marquee clash with Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo. Their final group match is scheduled for February 18 against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad.
