Kohli and Rohit Bring Fresh Energy to India’s ODI Lineup.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have shared insights into their mindset in ODI cricket and how they prepare for every international series. With T20Is retired after the 2024 World Cup and Tests earlier this year, the 50-over format is now the stage for the iconic Ro-Ko pairing.

The duo returned to the Indian side during the white-ball tour of Australia, facing mixed fortunes with the bat. However, they combined to lead India to victory in the final ODI—Rohit scoring 121 and Kohli adding 74. Their next challenge: the South Africa series, a critical stepping stone toward the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Ahead of India’s first match in Ranchi on November 30, BCCI shared a video highlighting team preparations, focusing on the veteran duo.

Mental Strength and Consistency
Kohli stressed the importance of continuous improvement, both on and off the field. “You get stronger mentally, physically, by putting in the work. It’s a constant process every day of your life. It’s not just cricket,” he said.

Rohit echoed him, emphasizing that his drive never changes when representing India. “The drive and willingness… every time you put on the Indian jersey, it’s always there,” he said.

The Ro-Ko Mindset
Kohli underscored that he always gives 100 percent when available to play. “Once I make myself available, I arrive at my full capacity. That’s how I’ve always played—never at 95 percent,” he said. Rohit added that his approach has been consistent since his international debut at age 20.

“The mindset of giving your best, whatever you have inside you, has remained the same,” he said.

Every Match Like a Debut
Despite their experience—Kohli with 14,255 runs in 305 ODIs and Rohit with 11,370 in 276—both treat every game as fresh. “I look at every match as making a debut because that’s how I train myself,” Rohit said.

Kohli highlighted balance as key to sustaining performance. “Being in a balanced place helps keep hard work consistent. Results are a byproduct of effort, not the other way around,” he said. Rohit concluded by reaffirming his unwavering commitment, regardless of gaps between series.

“Whether it’s after a month or six-seven months, my drive and willingness to perform for the team remain the same as long as I play,” he said.
