North Korea Warns Japan’s Nuclear Ambitions Must Be “Thoroughly Curbed”

North Korea’s state media KCNA on Sunday said Japan’s pursuit of nuclear weapons should be “thoroughly curbed.” The report cited a North Korean foreign-policy official, who highlighted Japan’s growing intent to reconsider its long-standing three non-nuclear principles.

KCNA linked Japan’s recent statements to the US approval for South Korea to build a nuclear-powered submarine, suggesting Tokyo’s ambitions gained momentum following Washington’s decision.

In October, US President Donald Trump had authorized South Korea’s nuclear submarine program during a summit with President Lee Jae Myung, marking a key step in regional security developments.
