Border 2 Review: Sunny Deol Commands Screen, Varun Dhawan Impresses, Ahan Shetty Holds His Own

After much anticipation, Border 2 starring Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, and Ahan Shetty released in theatres on January 23, 2026. Early reactions on X have been largely positive, praising the film’s scale, performances, and patriotic narrative.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote: “Director Anurag Singh delivers a thunderous, emotionally charged war epic that honours the legacy of the 1997 cult classic Border. At its heart, Border 2 is about valour, sacrifice, and brotherhood, told with conviction and cinematic flair.”

He added, “The war sequences are breathtaking—grand, detailed, and intense. Action always serves the story, never feels hollow.”

Sunny Deol emerges as the film’s heartbeat. “From the very first scene to the finale, he commands the screen with vintage power, delivering every dialogue with impact,” Adarsh noted.

Varun Dhawan surprises with intensity and vulnerability, Diljit Dosanjh charms with warmth and comic timing, while Ahan Shetty shows promise, holding his own alongside seasoned stars. Supporting actresses Medha Rana, Mona Singh, and Sonam Bajwa leave their mark.

Fans praised the performances:

“Sunny Deol—LION MODE💥, Varun Dhawan sincere and intense, Diljit Dosanjh adds heart, Ahan Shetty solid in war drama.”

Some critiques highlighted uneven execution:

“Scale is grand, but emotions sometimes feel forced, and the screenplay drags. Respectable effort, yet it can’t match the original’s impact.”

Directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, JP Dutta, and Nidhi Dutta, Border 2 is presented by Gulshan Kumar & T-Series in association with JP Films, serving as a sequel to the iconic 1997 war film.
