Rahul Gandhi Says FIR or Privilege Motion Won’t Stop Him From Fighting for Farmers

Amid talk of a possible privilege motion, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Thursday declared that he would continue to raise farmers’ issues regardless of any legal or parliamentary action against him. “FIR ho, mukadma darj ho ya Privilege prastaav laayein — main kisano ke liye ladunga,” Gandhi wrote on X, signalling that he would not be intimidated by threats of an FIR, court case or privilege motion.

He warned that any trade deal that harms farmers’ livelihoods or weakens India’s food security would be unacceptable. “Jo bhi trade deal kisano ki rozi-roti chheene ya desh ki khadya suraksha ko kamzor kare, woh kisan-virodhi hai,” he said.

Targeting the Narendra Modi government, Gandhi accused it of being anti-farmer and asserted that the opposition would not allow any compromise on the interests of the “annadata”. He maintained that protecting farmers and safeguarding food security must remain non-negotiable.

The remarks came a day after Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said a notice for a privilege motion would be moved against Gandhi for allegedly misleading the House and making baseless claims. However, government sources later indicated that the Centre is not inclined to proceed with a formal privilege motion for now, preferring to address the matter through debate in Parliament.
