T20 World Cup 2026, Group A – India 175/7 beat Pakistan 114 (18 overs) by 61 runs at R Premadasa Stadium, Colombo.

Broken hearts — and even broken television sets — summed up the mood among Pakistan supporters after their side’s crushing defeat to India in the T20 World Cup 2026 clash in Colombo on Sunday.

Pakistan slumped to a 61-run loss, their heaviest defeat to India in T20I history, following a one-sided contest at the R Premadasa Stadium. Defending champions India dominated across departments, powered by Ishan Kishan’s explosive knock and a clinical all-round bowling display.

Soon after the match, a video of a Pakistani fan smashing his television set went viral on social media. Sharing the clip, the fan wrote with a hint of self-mockery: “India beat Pakistan again and I just broke my TV set in frustration.”

In another post, he added: “Completely broken, ashamed, and in shock — can’t even speak,” alongside animated reaction videos.

Scenes outside the stadium reflected similar disappointment.

“I think it has become a routine matter now. I was hopeful we would at least put up a fight. But we don’t have answers to Bumrah. We cannot face Hardik. It’s the same situation,” he said.

“Well played, Team India. If this kind of performance continues, we cannot beat India. Their homework is really good.

“Usually I find positives in everything. But today, my heart is broken. It’s a very bad performance.

“We used to dominate a couple of decades ago. But in the last 20–25 years, India is on top. Well played, India.”

INDIA EXTEND DOMINANCE

The build-up had been dramatic, with Pakistan even threatening a boycott before reversing their stance a week earlier. They arrived with confidence after winning both their group-stage matches in Colombo and held the advantage of familiarity with local conditions. India, meanwhile, had only one practice session after landing in Sri Lanka on Friday.

But once the match began, those factors proved irrelevant.

Asked to bat first, India posted a commanding 175 for seven, largely thanks to Ishan Kishan’s breathtaking 77 off just 40 deliveries. On a sluggish Premadasa surface where strokeplay was not easy, Kishan blended fearless aggression with calculated shot selection to produce one of the standout innings of the tournament.

Pakistan’s chase never truly ignited.

Jasprit Bumrah (2/17) and Hardik Pandya (2/16) struck early, removing Sahibzada Farhan, Saim Ayub and captain Salman Ali Agha in quick succession. Reduced to 13 for three, Pakistan were immediately on the back foot.

Their troubles deepened when Babar Azam attempted a slog sweep off Axar Patel, only to be bowled. At 34 for four, the contest was effectively slipping away.

The Powerplay comparison told the story: India raced to 52 for one, while Pakistan stumbled to 38 for four. The gap only widened as India’s spinners tightened control through the middle overs.

Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, Tilak Varma and Varun Chakravarthy operated with discipline and precision, striking regularly and squeezing the scoring rate. Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 114 in 18 overs, sealing a comprehensive 61-run victory for India.

The result extended India’s dominant head-to-head record against Pakistan in T20 World Cups to 8–1, further reinforcing their supremacy in the marquee rivalry.
