Rumours claiming that veteran actor Neena Gupta is pregnant at the age of 66 recently went viral on social media, prompting the actor to respond to the speculation with humour.
The chatter began after Gupta attended the wedding reception of actors Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in Hyderabad. Photos and videos from the event quickly circulated online, with some users claiming that the actor appeared to have a baby bump.
As the rumours gathered momentum, Gupta addressed the speculation in an interview with Bollywood Hungama. Laughing off the claims, she joked about the situation by referencing her popular film Badhaai Ho, which revolves around an unexpected late pregnancy.
The speculation began after several posts on social media pointed to her appearance in the viral photos. Some users questioned whether the actor might actually be expecting a child, leading to widespread online discussion.
Gupta, however, firmly dismissed the rumours and clarified the reason behind her appearance in the photos. She explained that the thick fabric of the saree she wore at the event made her look bulkier than usual. While denying the claims, the actor added that she found the rumours amusing rather than upsetting, joking that such speculation about her pregnancy at this stage of life showed that society was gradually becoming more open-minded.
Gupta has long been known for speaking openly about her personal life. In the 1980s, she made headlines for her relationship with former West Indies cricketer Viv Richards and for raising their daughter, designer and actor Masaba Gupta, as a single mother.
