CBFC Hits Back at ‘False’ Allegations in Vijay’s Jana Nayagan Leak Row

Amid growing speculation over the leak of Jana Nayagan, the much-awaited final film of Vijay, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has issued a strong denial, dismissing allegations of its involvement as “completely false and baseless.”

CBFC distances itself from controversy

The controversy gained traction after reports suggested that the unreleased film—pending certification for months—may have been leaked from within the CBFC system. Responding swiftly, the board clarified that it had no role in the leak.

In a statement shared via Press Information Bureau (PIB), the CBFC said the digital copy of the film had already been returned to the makers well before the leak surfaced. It further explained that access to the film is tightly controlled through a Key Delivery Message (KDM), which is held exclusively by the producer. Without this encrypted key, the content cannot be accessed or screened.

The board also confirmed that the Digital Cinema Package (DCP) of the film was handed over to the applicant in Mumbai on March 17 with proper acknowledgement, and has remained outside its custody since then.

Leak sparks outrage across industry

Clips from Jana Nayagan first appeared online earlier this week, followed by reports of the full film being circulated on piracy platforms. The incident triggered widespread backlash from the film fraternity.

Prominent figures such as Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan and Vijay Deverakonda voiced support for Vijay and condemned the leak. Fans also urged restraint, calling on audiences to avoid watching or sharing pirated versions.

Production house KVN Productions confirmed that significant portions of the film had been illegally circulated and said strict legal action was underway against those responsible.

Release remains uncertain

Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan was originally slated for a January release but has faced delays due to certification objections. The project carries added significance as it is expected to be Vijay’s final film before his full-fledged political entry with Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK).

With the leak controversy and certification hurdles converging, the film’s release timeline remains unclear—leaving fans waiting for an official update while the makers deal with the fallout.
