Virat Kohli continued to script history, becoming the first batter to cross the 9000-run mark in the Indian Premier League.

The milestone came during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s dominant nine-wicket win over Delhi Capitals on April 27 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Needing just 11 runs to reach the landmark, Kohli got there with ease, bringing up the moment with a single off Axar Patel on the final ball of the powerplay. The feat further cements his position as the leading run-scorer in IPL history, well ahead of Rohit Sharma.

In 275 matches, Kohli has now amassed 9012 runs at an average of 40.05 and a strike rate of 133.80, including eight centuries and 66 half-centuries.

Kohli anchors effortless chase
The chase itself was a formality after Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar combined to dismantle Delhi for just 75 in 16.3 overs. Kohli, walking in early, approached the innings with composure—starting cautiously before shifting gears once settled.

He opened his account with a crisp boundary off Dushmantha Chameera and rotated strike smartly against bowlers like Kyle Jamieson, ensuring there were no hiccups in the chase. With victory within touching distance, Kohli added the finishing flourish against T Natarajan, smashing back-to-back sixes—a pull over deep mid-wicket followed by a straight loft—to seal the win in style with 81 balls to spare.
Strong form in IPL 2026

Kohli’s consistency this season has been equally impressive. He currently sits among the top run-getters in IPL 2026, scoring 351 runs from eight matches at an average of 58.50, including three fifties, with a highest score of 81.
Even by his lofty standards, Kohli’s latest milestone is another reminder of his enduring dominance and unmatched consistency in the league.
