Cristiano Ronaldo stormed off the pitch without collecting his runners-up medal after Al Nassr FC fell 1-0 to Gamba Osaka in the AFC Champions League Two final on Saturday.
A solitary goal from Deniz Hümmet at Al-Awwal Park sealed the title for the Japanese side and denied Ronaldo his first major trophy since joining Al-Nassr in 2023. Following the final whistle, the Portuguese forward avoided the medal presentation entirely, heading straight to the tunnel while the rest of the Al-Nassr squad, led by manager Jorge Jesus, walked up to receive their silver medals.
Al-Nassr dominated possession for long periods and created several chances but were repeatedly frustrated by teenage goalkeeper Rui Araki, who produced a string of important saves to protect Gamba Osaka’s lead. The Saudi side nearly took an early advantage when Abdulrahman Ghareeb forced Araki into a smart save, while Sadio Mané narrowly missed the target soon after.
Despite Al-Nassr’s strong start, Gamba Osaka capitalised on one of their few clear openings midway through the first half. Hümmet timed his run perfectly to meet Issam Jebali’s through ball before calmly finishing beyond Bento Matheus Krepski.
Ronaldo came close to levelling the match before halftime with a header that drifted wide, while João Félix struck the post in the second half as Al-Nassr continued to pile on pressure. The Saudi club pushed relentlessly in the closing stages, but Gamba Osaka’s defence held firm to complete a memorable victory and lift the AFC Champions League Two trophy.
The defeat leaves Ronaldo still waiting for his first piece of silverware with Al-Nassr, though the club remains firmly in the hunt for the Saudi Pro League title.
