A 5.2-magnitude earthquake struck China’s southwestern Guangxi region early Monday, killing two people and forcing more than 7,000 residents in Liuzhou to evacuate as rescue efforts continued and authorities warned of possible transport disruptions.
State media, including CCTV and Xinhua, reported that two deaths had been confirmed, one person remained missing, and four others were hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries.
CCTV said 13 buildings collapsed following the quake, which hit in the early hours of Monday.
Railway authorities also warned of transport disruptions while inspections of rail infrastructure were underway to assess possible damage.
State media said communication and power lines, as well as water, gas supply and road traffic in the affected areas, were functioning normally.
