Heavy Rain Batters Bengaluru, Flooding Streets and Delaying Flights

Heavy rainfall battered Bengaluru on Monday, leaving several parts of the city waterlogged and causing massive traffic snarls and disruptions to flight operations.

Persistent rain and thunderstorms reduced visibility around the airport, affecting air traffic movement and leading to delays in multiple arrivals and departures. Travellers were advised to check their flight status before leaving for the airport and keep additional travel time due to flooded roads and severe congestion.

As weather conditions worsened, IndiGo issued a travel advisory alerting passengers about possible disruptions to flight schedules at Bengaluru airport.

“Bad weather over Bengaluru has impacted flight schedules. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly,” the airline said in a statement.

Heavy showers led to flood-like situations in several localities, with videos shared online showing submerged streets, stranded vehicles and crawling traffic across different parts of the city. Many residents who had ventured out during the pleasant weather earlier in the day found themselves stranded for hours as rainfall intensified by evening.

The situation turned particularly chaotic near the Sivananda Circle underpass, where waterlogging caused long traffic queues on the flyover linking Old Race Course Road and Seshadripuram. Traffic movement remained severely affected in adjoining areas as vehicles struggled to move through inundated roads.

Cars, buses and autorickshaws were seen stuck in long lines across the city, while several bikers halted under flyovers and roadside shelters to escape the downpour.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in 12 districts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru, for Monday, raising concerns of further disruption if the rain continues.
