A 21-year-old British woman has been arrested in Thailand after allegedly fatally stabbing her boyfriend at a luxury rental home in Pattaya, according to local media reports.

The victim, a 34-year-old British national who reportedly operated a cannabis farm, was found dead on Thursday morning inside a villa in the popular beach resort city, about two hours from Bangkok, the Bangkok Post reported.

Police said the man’s body was discovered in the bathroom attached to a bedroom with multiple stab wounds. Investigators believe he had been dead for around six hours before officers arrived at the scene, according to The Guardian.

Woman Found At Scene

The woman, identified as the victim’s girlfriend, was found sitting inside the house when police arrived.

Investigators told the Bangkok Post that they recovered a 50-centimetre machete-like knife that appeared to have been washed clean and left in a sink.

During questioning, the woman reportedly claimed her boyfriend had injured himself. However, police said her account contained inconsistencies.

She later told investigators that the couple had spent the day shopping for engagement rings before returning home and smoking cannabis together. She allegedly said she could not remember what happened afterwards.

Signs Of A Struggle

Police launched the investigation after one of the victim’s friends visited the property to check on him.

According to reports, the friend had been alerted by one of the victim’s business associates in the United States, who feared something was wrong. After entering the house, he recorded a video of the scene before contacting police.

Investigators said bloodstains and signs of a struggle were found in several parts of the residence. They also believe the victim’s body may have been moved before officers arrived.

Footage broadcast by Pattaya Cable TV showed police examining the property while the suspect, described as having red hair, sat on a sofa inside the house before later being questioned outside the residence.

UK Authorities Respond

The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed it was providing consular assistance following the incident. “We are supporting the families of two British nationals in Thailand and are in contact with the local authorities,” an FCDO spokesperson said.

Thailand became the first country in Asia to legalise cannabis in 2022, leading to a rapid expansion of cannabis businesses. Although the government tightened rules on recreational use last year, cannabis remains widely available across the country.
