Pankaj Tripathi Bags Prestigious ‘Artiste of Distinction’ Honour at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne

Pankaj Tripathi to Be Honoured with ‘Artiste of Distinction’ Award at IFFM 2026

Acclaimed actor Pankaj Tripathi will be conferred with the prestigious Artiste of Distinction honour at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2026, marking another landmark achievement in his illustrious career. The festival will also mark Tripathi’s first appearance at IFFM, where he will receive the award in person.

Known for his remarkable versatility, Tripathi has delivered acclaimed performances across films and web series, including Gangs of Wasseypur, Mirzapur, Newton, Masaan, Bareilly Ki Barfi, Fukrey, Stree, Criminal Justice, OMG 2, Main Atal Hoon and the National Award-winning Mimi. His understated yet powerful performances have established him as one of India’s most respected actors.

Expressing his gratitude, Tripathi said the recognition was “deeply humbling.”

“I have always believed that stories have the extraordinary power to transcend boundaries, connect hearts and bring people closer, irrespective of language or geography. To have my journey recognised on an international platform like IFFM is truly special and incredibly meaningful,” he said.

The actor credited filmmakers, writers, directors, technicians, fellow actors and audiences for shaping his journey, adding that the honour belongs to everyone who has been part of his career. Reflecting on his roots, Tripathi said his journey from a small village in Bihar to receiving international recognition reaffirmed the transformative power of cinema.

“Coming from a small village in Bihar, I never imagined that the stories I would become a part of would one day travel across the world and be celebrated in this manner,” he said. Tripathi also said he was looking forward to attending the festival for the first time, interacting with audiences in Australia and celebrating Indian cinema with artists from across the industry.

Announcing the honour, IFFM Festival Director Mitu Bhowmick Lange hailed Tripathi as “one of the finest actors of our generation,” saying his ability to portray complex characters with authenticity and empathy has earned him admiration across the world.

She said the Artiste of Distinction award celebrates not only Tripathi’s outstanding body of work but also his immense contribution to storytelling that transcends languages and cultures. The Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2026 will be held from August 13 to August 23 at Melbourne’s iconic Palais Theatre, bringing together some of the biggest names in Indian and international cinema.
