CJP Says Govt Yet to Give Written Assurance on Students’ FIRs, Warns of Fresh Protest

The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Tuesday said it is still awaiting a written assurance from the Centre on its alleged promise to withdraw FIRs against student protesters and ensure that no fresh cases are filed against them in the future.

Speaking after a meeting with government representatives, CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said the Centre had invited him for discussions and referred to a Supreme Court order permitting the investigation into the existing FIRs.

According to Das, government officials cited Direction No. 4 of the apex court’s order and maintained that, since the matter is before the Supreme Court, it is now sub judice. “I asked them directly whether they would provide the guarantee in writing. We have received no response from them so far,” Das told ANI.

Das claimed the government’s assurance was not intended to be limited to Delhi and would also cover BJP-ruled and NDA-governed states. However, he said the party would not consider the issue resolved until it received a written commitment.

CJP Warns of Nationwide Agitation

Das said the deadline set by the party for receiving the assurance was nearing its end and accused the government of failing to honour its commitments to students.

Calling it a potential “massive betrayal” of the country’s youth, he warned that the CJP would launch another nationwide protest if the promised assurances were not fulfilled.

“You must honour the promises made to the students. We want you to keep your word regarding any future decisions taken in the interest of students,” he said.

He added that demonstrations would be held not only in Delhi but across several states if the government failed to act.

Criticism of Supreme Court Order

Earlier, Das had expressed dissatisfaction with the Supreme Court’s interim order allowing authorities to continue investigating the FIRs registered during the student protests.

In a post on X, he said the apex court should not be “politicised” and alleged that its directions should not be used to target peaceful protesters.

He argued that while police are free to pursue legal action against those accused in unrelated criminal cases, protest-related FIRs should not become a tool to harass students.

Party Maintains Pressure

The CJP has repeatedly threatened to resume protests if the FIRs against student demonstrators are not withdrawn.

On Monday, party spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka demanded the immediate withdrawal of all cases against protesters, the release of detained students and a guarantee that no fresh FIRs would be registered by Delhi Police, central agencies or police forces in BJP-ruled states.

CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke also warned that the party would return to the streets with another large-scale peaceful protest if, according to him, students continued to face police action despite earlier assurances.
