Türkiye, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia to Coordinate Through New Political, Military Mechanisms Under Defense Pact

Türkiye, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan will establish new political and military coordination mechanisms under the defence pact signed by the three countries last week, Türkiye’s Defence Ministry said on Thursday.

The “Makkah Joint Defence Agreement” was signed on August 7, with the three countries agreeing that an armed attack against any one member would be considered an attack against all. The ministry said the new mechanisms would involve the defence and foreign ministers as well as military chiefs of the three countries, providing a framework for closer security coordination.

Ankara also said joint military exercises were being planned under the agreement. Defence cooperation could further expand to include joint production, technology sharing and other forms of collaboration in the defence industry. The pact comes amid heightened tensions in the region, with the three US partners seeking closer security coordination as the conflict involving Iran has raised concerns among Gulf states.
