Kangana Ranaut Questions Bollywood’s Silence on Jharkhand Protest; ‘Pralay’ Shoot Shifted to Mumbai

Kangana Ranaut has criticised Bollywood for what she described as its silence over student protests in Jharkhand.

In an interview with ANI, the actor and BJP MP accused sections of the film industry of hypocrisy, claiming they expressed concern over the CJP-led protests at Jantar Mantar against the NEET paper leak but have not shown the same support for students in Jharkhand.

Kangana questioned the differing reactions and said, “Yeh doglapan film industry ka nahi chalega,” arguing that the concerns shown towards protesters in Delhi should also extend to students raising their demands in Jharkhand.

She has also clarified her controversial “Generation Gutter” remark, which sparked criticism after she commented on participants in the Jantar Mantar protest. Kangana said she was not referring to an entire generation, but only to a particular section of protesters whose conduct she had seen in videos from the demonstration.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra remembered late actor Sridevi on her birth anniversary and shared an update on the biography being made on her life and career. Priyanka posted a glimpse of the project on her Instagram Stories, paying tribute to the legendary actor and her contribution to Indian cinema.

The upcoming biography is expected to cover Sridevi’s remarkable career, personal journey and enduring legacy. The actor, who died in 2018, continues to be remembered as one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated performers. On the film front, Ranveer Singh is set to star in Pralay, a zombie thriller directed by Jai Mehta. The project marks a departure from the actor’s recent work and has generated interest among fans.

The film’s shooting plans have reportedly undergone a change, with the schedule initially planned in Australia now being shifted to Mumbai. The move comes as the makers prepare for production on the highly anticipated project. Batwara 1947, starring Sunny Deol, Preity Zinta, Shabana Azmi, Karan Deol and Ali Fazal, is also generating buzz ahead of its release. Backed by Aamir Khan Productions, the film is scheduled to hit theatres on August 14.

Producer Ramesh Taurani recently attended a special screening and shared his early reaction to the film, further adding to anticipation around the period drama.
