Serena and Venus Williams are set to join forces again at the US Open after receiving a wild card for the women’s doubles competition at the 2026 tournament.
The USTA announced the sisters’ entry on Wednesday, confirming their return to the doubles court at Flushing Meadows. The pair have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together, including US Open championships in 1999 and 2009. They have also enjoyed Olympic success, winning four gold medals as a doubles partnership.
Their last appearance together at the US Open came in 2022, when Serena competed at the tournament for the final time before stepping away from professional tennis. The sisters reunited at the Cincinnati Open earlier this year, playing together for the first time since 2022, but their campaign ended with a first-round defeat.
Serena has already competed at the 2026 US Open in the mixed doubles event alongside Carlos Alcaraz. The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion and six-time US Open winner reached the quarter-finals before being knocked out. Venus has also been handed a wild card for the women’s singles main draw.
The Williams sisters’ return to the doubles draw will give them another opportunity to add to their remarkable US Open record and once again compete together on one of tennis’ biggest stages.
Wawrinka Gets US Open Wild Card After Kypson Withdrawal
Stan Wawrinka has secured a singles main-draw wild card for the 2026 US Open after Patrick Kypson withdrew from the tournament due to injury.
The three-time Grand Slam champion was initially overlooked for the US Open wild cards, with the final spot awarded to Kypson. That left Wawrinka facing the prospect of missing what could be his final appearance at Flushing Meadows.
Kypson’s withdrawal has now opened the door for the Swiss star to enter the main draw. Wawrinka, 41, is competing in the final season of his professional career and had already received wild cards for this year’s Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon.
Wawrinka’s three Grand Slam triumphs came at the 2014 Australian Open, 2015 French Open and 2016 US Open. His victory in New York remains one of the defining moments of his career, as he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final to claim the title.
The late wildcard addition ensures Wawrinka will get another chance to compete at the venue where he captured the third and final Grand Slam title of his career.
