Mamata Banerjee Faces FIR For Alleged Violation Of Calcutta High Court Order

Kolkata Police has filed a suo motu FIR against former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over an alleged violation of a Calcutta High Court order during a Trinamool Congress student wing event in Kolkata, PTI reported.

The case concerns the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) foundation day programme held on August 28 at Cathedral Road. The High Court had granted permission for the event but directed organisers to keep one side of the road open to ensure the movement of traffic.

FIR Against Mamata, Event Organisers

According to a police officer, the FIR was registered at Hastings Police Station against Banerjee and the organisers of the TMCP programme.

The case has been registered under Sections 61(2), 223, 125(a), 132 and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Police said the FIR was lodged following the alleged breach of the conditions laid down by the High Court. Investigators will examine the role of those involved in the alleged violation.

Barricades Allegedly Removed

According to the police complaint, TMC supporters allegedly moved barricades during the event, leading to disruption on Cathedral Road. Police also alleged that some supporters jostled with personnel deployed at the venue and affected traffic movement in the area.

Another allegation is that the programme continued beyond the time limit specified by the High Court.

Police To Probe Alleged Court Order Violation

The FIR has been filed based on the alleged non-compliance with the court’s directions. Police said the investigation will establish what happened during the programme and determine the role of the organisers and others in any violation.

The allegations against Banerjee and the event organisers are subject to investigation.
