Amit Shah Sets 2029 Target for UCC, Says 21 States Will Implement It Before Lok Sabha Polls

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has said the government is confident of implementing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) across all 21 states ruled by the BJP-led NDA before the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.

Shah made the announcement on Sunday while speaking to the media during the Seva Sankalp Abhiyan in Mumbai. He said the UCC has already been introduced in several states and expressed confidence that the remaining NDA-ruled states would also bring it into effect before the next general election.

“We introduced the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in several states. I am confident that we will implement the UCC in all 21 states governed by the BJP-led NDA before 2029,” Shah said.

The Home Minister also pointed to changes in India’s criminal justice system following the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He claimed that several states had witnessed a 30 per cent rise in conviction rates within a year.

Shah was also asked about ongoing debates surrounding language and regional identity. He said the government’s policy is to give priority to mother tongues and pointed to constitutional provisions supporting the same.

“It is our government’s policy to prioritise the mother tongue, and the Constitution has also issued specific directives to the states in this regard. I do not believe this will become a major issue,” he said.

On incidents that could potentially trigger social tensions, Shah said state governments would be capable of handling such situations. He acknowledged that isolated incidents could occur if individuals deliberately attempted to create tensions but expressed confidence in the leadership at the state level.

“While isolated incidents may occur if certain individuals attempt to stoke tensions, the states have experienced leadership and will certainly find a way to resolve such issues,” Shah said.

Seva Sankalp Abhiyan To Mark PM Modi’s 25 Years In Public Service

The month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being organised across the country to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 25 years of public service.

The campaign will begin on September 17, Modi’s birthday, and continue until October 17. The programme is scheduled to cover districts, Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies, as well as polling booths across the country.

Shah said the BJP-led NDA, voluntary organisations and citizens from across the country would participate in the campaign.

The initiative is aimed at marking Modi’s 25-year journey in public life through a series of outreach and service-oriented activities across the country.
