Two Terrorists Shot Dead in Late-Night Encounter With Forces in Udhampur

Two suspected terrorists believed to be linked to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) were killed during an overnight encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district on Wednesday.

The identities of the two men are yet to be confirmed. Security officials suspect they were foreign nationals and may have been associated with JeM.

The operation was launched after security forces received intelligence inputs about suspicious movement in the Sohan area. A joint team subsequently carried out a cordon-and-search operation to locate the suspected terrorists.

The search operation turned into a gunbattle after security forces and the suspects exchanged heavy fire. The encounter continued late into the night before the bodies of the two suspected terrorists were recovered in the early hours.

Security forces also recovered arms and ammunition from the encounter site.

Personnel from the Rashtriya Rifles, Para (Special Forces) and Jammu and Kashmir Police participated in the joint operation.

Udhampur Encounter Follows Budgam Operation

The latest operation comes shortly after security forces killed a Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commander in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on September 5.

The slain terrorist was identified as Yasir, who was reportedly associated with the Sulaiman Musa group of LeT. Security sources said Yasir had separated from the group nearly a year earlier and had been operating independently since then.

According to officials, security agencies had been tracking his movements and monitoring his activities in the Yousmarg area of Budgam before the operation.

The Udhampur encounter is the latest security operation in Jammu and Kashmir targeting suspected militants in the region.
